Man Fatally Shot in Sloan’s Lake Incident Identified

The Denver coroner has identified a man who was fatally shot in a Sloan’s Lake neighborhood Tuesday morning in a possible case of self defense.

Dwayne Kelly, 52, was shot by an unidentified homeowner in the 1600 block of Yates Street, located between Sloan’s Lake and West Colfax Avenue, around 10:40 a.m., according to a news release from the Denver Coroner’s Office.

The homeowner was questioned. He has not been arrested.

Kelly has a lengthy criminal history including burglary, domestic violence and resisting arrest, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Denver District Attorney’s office to decide whether charges will be filed.
