2018 Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

Greetings, neighbors!

The 2018 Colorado Dragon Boat Festival will take place on Saturday, July 28th and Sunday, July 29th.

CDBF is a FREE family-friendly festival highlighting Colorado’s rich Asian Pacific American heritage. On behalf of the Board, staff, and volunteer Operations Committee, THANK YOU for your continued support. It has allowed us to continue this very important event, bringing a depth of ethnically diverse programming to the City of Denver and its surrounding residents. We truly appreciate you welcoming us into your community each year!

Festival Dates & Hours: Saturday, July 28th 10:00am – 7:00pm Sunday, July 29th 10:00am – 5:00pm

IMPORTANT! Traffic Plan: On the reverse page, please find the 2018 CDBF Traffic and Street Closure Plan. Many of your houses will be affected by the No Parking restrictions. As our law enforcement teams cannot distinguish between the cars of residents and those of festival attendees, we ask that you park in your garages, behind your homes, or outside of these parking perimeters. If you do not have access to special parking accommodations for this weekend, please contact us PRIOR TO festival weekend for alternatives.

Street closure and parking barricades/signage will be placed on Friday, July 27th, with permits in effect at 12:00am. We will actively enforce Saturday, July 28th at 5:00am through Sunday, July 29th at 9:00pm.

Alternative Transportation: Attendees are encouraged to park at Auraria Campus for $5/car, which includes free shuttle rides to/from the festival. A limited number of buses will be equipped with wheelchair lifts. Those biking or riding their scooter (under 50cc), may use the Bike/Scooter Corrals which will be staffed by our Non-Profit Partners. We DO NOT advertise parking in the neighborhood and, in fact, strongly discourage it.

Accessibility: We will be offering a limited number of first-come first-served onsite parking spaces for those with disability plates and/or placards. The RTD bus shelter on the south side of W. Byron Pl. will be closed for service and used as a disability drop-off point. Otherwise, there will be ample accessible parking at Auraria Campus with access to the festival via shuttle buses equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Festival Safety: The Colorado Dragon Boat Festival prides itself on its safety record. We work with a team of very knowledgeable Denver Police Department officers as well as private security guards to provide onsite safety and security 24/7. Our onsite paramedic team provides roaming support as well as a medical station for all attendees. We also work closely with Denver Park Rangers for land and water support.

Private Vendor Sales: We highly discourage and ask you to not rent your lawns to independent beverage vendors. All of the beverage and snow cone booths at the festival are run by local 501(c)(3) non-profit groups as a fundraiser for their individual causes. Many groups use this as an opportunity to raise critically needed funds for year-round operations. Among the dozen locally and internationally focused non-profits represented in 2018 are the Girl Scouts of America. New this year is the ALS Association Rocky Mountain Chapter that works hard to provide services, encouraging a better quality of life to over 500 families living with ALS across the Rocky Mountain Region.

Public Safety Hotline: The CDBF Public Safety Team hotline, (970) 765-8819, will be activated during festival hours. Please call with issues regarding any traffic and safety concerns. We have an internal radio system on which we are able to dispatch directly to our DPD officers, security guards, and EMTs. However, if it is an emergency, please dial 911.Leading up to the festival please feel free to call the office (303) 953-7277 or reach us at our email: PublicSafety@cdbf.org. During the festival if you are unable to reach our hotline, please feel free to contact the Denver Help Center at 311. All calls to this number will be recorded.

Apply for Free and Low-Cost Trees

There is less than a month for Denverites to apply for free and reduced cost trees through The Park People’s Denver Digs Trees program. The entire city and county of Denver is eligible to apply for trees, and people may request as many trees as they have space for. Applications are available until Feb. 15, 2018. The tree distribution and sale is on Earth Day weekend, April 21 and 22, 2018.

All street trees are free. Yard trees are just $10 for those who live in the targeted Denver neighborhoods, which were selected based on their low tree coverage, and $35 for homeowners in the remaining areas of the city. Treeships for free yard trees also are available to those experiencing financial hardship.

To complete an application or get more information, text ‘TREE’ to 797979, visit www.TheParkPeople.org, or call 303-722-6262 for a paper application.

In addition to Denver Digs Trees, The Park People offers Community Forester classes for people interested in leading tree planting and care activities. For more information, visit www.TheParkPeople.org.

The Park People is dedicated to preserving, enhancing and advocating for Denver’s parks, recreation resources, open space, and urban forest. Through the Denver Digs Trees program, The Park People has added more than 50,000 trees to Denver’s skyline over the past 27 years.

Denver Digs Trees is generously supported by Xcel Energy, Denver Parks & Recreation, and other partners.
